Most of PSI's nuclear research is done on behalf of the Federal Government and in close co-operation with external partners, or on behalf and with financial support of "clients". These are in particular the nuclear power plant operators, the national co-operative for the disposal of nuclear waste (NAGRA) and the safety authorities, the national regulatory authority HSK. It also includes service work for the utilities. Some projects also involve private industry partners. All ongoing projects are embedded in international co-operations on a multi- and on bi-national basis. PSI also provides unbiased basic scientific material in the public debate on nuclear energy that takes place in the framework of various organizations (e.g. the "Forum VERA")
